Zero Line · a journey inside the iceberg

What we hear is only the tip of the iceberg

Begin with measurable sound, move between separate lenses for EEG and models of mind, and arrive where measurement ends and inquiry begins.

The experience begins in silence. Start the gentle ambience if you wish; a selection on the iceberg adds its own sound layer over the descent.

Let the iceberg guide the journey, or pause at any moment and freely explore sound frequencies, EEG rhythms and mind maps.

The Resonance Iceberg · A living depth map

Do not just view the spectrum. Enter it.

Scroll from the iceberg peak into the deep and explore a conventional approximation of the human audible range, from 20 kHz to 20 Hz. Each beacon is placed by formula on a logarithmic scale; select one to distinguish measured data, symbolic interpretation and personal reflection.

An iceberg above and below water, used as a metaphor for the journey from conscious awareness into inner depth

Choose a frequency: the camera will travel to it and the iceberg will light up. Audio starts only with your click.

Sound frequenciesHearing-edge tone ladder. 15–1 kHz play as short browser-generated carriers. This is a listening demonstration, not a medical hearing test; begin at low device volume, and do not turn it up to “chase” a tone you cannot hear. At 15 kHz, a short lower reference cue plays first. It confirms playback started, not that the 15 kHz carrier was heard.
EEG rhythms

The credibility frame

Same Hz. Three different phenomena.

Sound and EEG use the same hertz unit but measure different phenomena; the mind metaphor is not a measurement at all. The three lenses meet in one visual experience without claiming a fixed mapping between them.

01

The scale is calculated

Vertical position is calculated on a logarithmic scale, so each doubling of frequency occupies a similar distance. The 20Hz–20kHz range and zone boundaries are conventional approximations; actual hearing varies by person, age and playback system.

02

Depth is visual language

Lower frequencies are shown deeper and higher frequencies higher as a visual choice only. This does not show that any sound reaches deeper into the brain or subconscious, or acts at a particular level of awareness.

03

EEG is a separate measurement domain

EEG records changes in electrical potential measured at the scalp. Its frequency bands describe patterns in that signal, not audible pitch, depth of consciousness or a fixed match to a sound selected in the player.

EEG reference
EEG · 0.5–80Hz

What might a signal rhythm sound like?

EEG context · Separate signal bands · EEG ranges are shown here as a learning illustration, separate from the sound selected in the player. EEG research is interpreted through age, electrode location, context and the rest of the signal.

Gammaabove 30Hz
Fast activity

Activity above 30Hz studied in complex processing contexts; scalp measurements in this range are also sensitive to muscle artifacts.

Gamma · Details
In everyday life
As an everyday image only: a task that asks several details to connect quickly.
Reflection prompt
What needs several pieces to connect right now?
Beta13–30Hz
Active wakefulness

Faster rhythms often seen during active wakefulness; one band alone is not a measure of focus.

Beta · Details
In everyday life
Work, conversation or a decision that calls for active attention.
Reflection prompt
What one thing deserves your attention now?
Alpha8–13Hz
Awake rest

A rhythm commonly seen during awake rest, especially with eyes closed and over posterior scalp regions.

Alpha · Details
In everyday life
A quiet moment of rest without falling asleep or needing to act immediately.
Reflection prompt
What becomes clearer when nothing needs to happen immediately?
Theta4–8Hz
Slower activity

Can appear in drowsiness and light sleep, and in some waking contexts.

Theta · Details
In everyday life
The transition into sleep, or a moment when thought wanders without a set destination.
Reflection prompt
What image or association appears without searching?
Delta0.5–4Hz
Slow activity

Slow activity especially prominent during deeper sleep stages in adults; its meaning depends on measurement context.

Delta · Details
In everyday life
Deep sleep in adults is a common context for activity this slow.
Reflection prompt
What does the body want to release before rest?
The zero point0Hz · symbol
Between ending and beginning · a point becomes a question

Zero hertz is neither an audible sound nor a brain state. In our metaphor it symbolizes infinity and the silence before motion, a point of potential where an ending can become a beginning.

A sonification of a representative rhythm that lets you hear the difference between delta, theta, alpha, beta and gamma. Start at a low volume. Actual level is set by your device and headphones; stop if you feel discomfort or ringing.

Five layers of attention and meaning

The atlas uses the iceberg as a language for inner reflection, connecting five layers of attention and meaning.

Spiritual languageSuperconsciousA symbolic space for values, meaning, intuition and a sense of connection.
In psychological terms
The term is not an established scientific category; it can be read as a search for meaning, values and wider perspective.
Everyday example
A decision guided by an important value rather than only an immediate impulse.
Focus prompt · inspired by NLP
What value could guide the next step?
Available attentionConsciousWhat can be noticed, named and chosen right now.
In psychological terms
Content currently in the focus of attention and available for report.
Everyday example
Putting into words what is being felt and what to do from here.
Focus prompt · inspired by NLP
What holds your attention right now?
Between sensation and wordsAttention thresholdThe symbolic moment when a sensation or cue begins to take shape and find words.
In psychological terms
Here it is an image for movement between automatic processing and information entering focused attention, not a physical line in the brain.
Everyday example
Noticing tension in the shoulders just before naming what feels wrong.
Focus prompt · inspired by NLP
What changed, if anything, after ten seconds of listening?
Within reach of awarenessPreconsciousInformation that is not in the focus of attention right now, yet can surface into awareness fairly easily.
In psychological terms
A symbolic middle layer between conscious and subconscious: a memory or sensation available through simple recall, unlike deep automatic patterns.
Everyday example
A name or a detail from today that returns the moment you pause and recall it.
Focus prompt · inspired by NLP
What is almost in words already, and only needs a moment to surface?
Metaphor for automatic patternsSubconsciousA symbolic name for patterns, memories and responses that are not always immediately accessible.
In psychological terms
Psychology more often refers to unconscious processing, implicit learning and habits, not an anatomical layer called the subconscious.
Everyday example
An automatic response that appears before its trigger is understood.
Focus prompt · inspired by NLP
What pattern, if any, is felt before it has words?
Systematic review of health evidence for NLP

Sounds and audible frequencies in the player and brain activity rhythms are measured in hertz, but they are not the same and do not have a fixed one-to-one mapping.
